Lorcana Opens Format Coconut Beta With Singleton Deckbuilding
The experimental multiplayer format uses a special Coconut card, as many as three ink colors and a 25-lore finish while most of the deck remains singleton.
Disney Lorcana has moved Format Coconut into open beta, turning an earlier round of closed testing into a public multiplayer experiment. The format is designed primarily for three or four players and changes both deck construction and the winning lore total while leaving the standard multiplayer framework otherwise intact.
The Coconut card starts the build
Each deck is organized around a special Coconut card whose abilities are intended to suggest a strategy. Players may use up to three ink colors, but at least one must match the Coconut card. The deck must contain at least 60 cards. A player may include as many as four copies of the character associated with the Coconut, while every other card is limited to a single copy.
Multiplayer reaches a higher finish line
Normal multiplayer rules continue to apply, with one central scoring change: victory requires 25 lore. Ravensburger describes the beta as primarily a three- or four-player experience, although groups may test it with more participants. The combination of singleton construction and an extra ink color expands the available card pool while the signature character remains the deck’s most repeatable element.
Public testing moves through events and online feedback
The companion app began carrying format information from July 28. Ravensburger also scheduled developer tables and social hours at Gen Con, held July 30 through August 2, with preconstructed decks available alongside player-built lists. Two tables are planned for gamescom in Cologne from August 26 through 30, where designers will collect further feedback.
The rules are still deliberately provisional
A dedicated Discord channel and a player survey form the online feedback route, and the publisher plans to reveal a new beta Coconut card each week. Earlier tests took place in China and at the Lorcana Challenge in Indianapolis. Physical Coconut cards have been discussed only as a possible future development, so the beta should not be read as a finalized product announcement.
