Planar Cube Draft Shifts to Innistrad in Week Two
A 200-card fixed core and weekly 360-card module shift give each plane a distinct Limited identity.
The Innistrad rotation of Planar Cube Draft begins July 28 as the second weekly plane change in an event running July 21 through August 8.
Weekly Plane Changes
The format planeswalks every Tuesday, replacing most of its module while a 200-card planar core remains constant across all three weeks. Each 360-card planar module draws from across Magic's history to highlight one plane's themes, mechanics, and aesthetics. For this first Planar Cube, any card appearing in one planar module is excluded from the others, making each card available for only one week.
Power Level and Design Identity
The Innistrad installment is the most mechanics-forward cube ever run on MTG Arena. Designers lowered power slightly from earlier high-power Arena Cube iterations after deciding that outliers including Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer; Mana Drain; and Oko, Thief of Crowns better suited the subsequent Arena Powered Cube format. Zendikar served as the opening plane in part because enfranchised Arena cube drafters already knew that space. The Planar Cube concept was originally held for the Marvel Super Heroes season after a different Arena Powered Cube variant took its initial slot.
