Wizards of the Coast has issued the Mystery Booster Commander Edition Release Notes, establishing card legality and clarifying the set's new rulebreaker ability word alongside its 2,000-plus card pool.
New Cards and Format Legality
Fifty-nine fresh cards and one previously digital-only card without the acorn symbol—numbered MBC 1–60—gain legality in Commander, Legacy, and Vintage. The 121 playtest cards remain barred from sanctioned tournament play outside Mystery Booster Limited events. Inclusion in this product does not alter where most other cards may be played.
Rulebreaker and Commander Draft
The rulebreaker ability word makes its first appearance here, grouping effects that modify deck construction restrictions when the card bearing it serves as a commander. A deck led by Seluma, Light of Aysen may include Fallen Angel despite color identity differences, though it must still observe singleton limits and the 100-card minimum. In Commander Draft using this set, both commanders begin in the command zone with 58 remaining cards shuffled into the library, and partner rules operate under the same principles as prior printings.
Digital Origins and Playtest Content
The set also delivers printed versions of select cards first developed for Magic: The Gathering Arena's Alchemy format. The playtest cards—121 in total, conceived by Studio X designers—reprise their role from earlier Mystery Booster releases.
